Disposal & Decomposition
To ensure eco-friendly disposal, please follow these steps:
Remove Bristles: Use pliers to remove the nylon-4 bristles from the bamboo handle if home composting. Nylon-4 is not suitable for home composting as it can only degrade in a municipal compost setting.
Compost the Handle: The bamboo handle can be composted in your home compost bin or a municipal composting facility. Breaking the handle into smaller pieces accelerates decomposition.
Recycle or Industrial Compost Bristles: The bristles can be composted in a municipal compost facility or it should be placed in your recycling bin if your local program accepts this type of bio-plastic. If not, dispose of it in the trash as a last resort.
Decomposition Time
Bamboo Handle:
Home Composting: Typically decomposes within 6 to 12 months
Industrial Composting: Can decompose in about 4 to 6 months.
Natural Environment: Decomposition can take between 6 months and 3 years, depending on environmental conditions.
Landfills: Decomposition in a landfill can be significantly slower and can take several years.
Nylon-4 Bristles:
Industrial Composting Facilities: Nylon-4 can degrade within 6 to 12 months under optimal conditions.
Landfills and Natural Environments: Degradation is considerably slower, and it may take several years for the bristles to break down.
Note: The above times can vary based on local environmental conditions. We recommend composting the bamboo handle to minimize environmental impact.
Our charcoal infused bristles naturally white teeth, and have been proven more effective than regular toothbrushes at removing bacteria. They’ll wipe away plaque and stains, while still being soft on your gums.
Smile, you’re saving the planet™
Our mission is to clean up oral care by eliminating as much plastic as possible and other materials that are harmful to our planet. But simply doing better isn’t enough, that’s why we’ve doubled down on our commitment to things in better shape than we found it.
Brush away plastic
Plastic toothbrushes take over 500 years to decompose, but bamboo only takes 3 to 6 months. It’s an easy way to reduce your plastic waste, and bamboo is naturally antibacterial, which we think is kinda nice to have for your toothbrush.

What Are Your Toothbrush Bristles Made From?
We only use Nylon-4 for our toothbrush bristles and floss threads. Nylon-4 is a type of nylon made of biodegradable polymers. We use Nylon-4 because it's strong and durable, making it great for cleaning teeth.
Nylon-4 must be industrially composted to ensure it fully biodegrades. It takes about 6-12 months to degrade in an industrial setting. If disposed of in a landfill, it'll take several years for the thread to degrade.
